Remember that time I pondered the question: Is the 100 Day Project a Chance at a New Year’s Resolution Do Over?

It’s been one week of the 100 Day Project with
and so far so good. A refresher on the 3 items on my list: draw faces, morning pages and Substacking. I’m clearly not showing you my rambling morning pages so you get to see the faces part inside the Substack part. Twofer!
Morning Pages, Active Meditation, Daily Pages - Same Thing Different Names
Honestly my handwriting is so bad and I’ve been filling the blank spaces in a previous to-do list journal out of order so my Morning Pages are not even legible to me. The important part is I am getting them done. I listened to two different podcasts this week that mentioned how helpful morning pages can be so that felt affirming. One was an episode of Crafty Ass Female with
and the other was this episode of the Get Messy Podcast with .
Griffonage or Cursive
With Morning Pages not only do I enjoy emptying my head over coffee rather than filling it with more bad news it’s also fun to write in cursive. I wouldn’t even call what I am doing cursive. I’m not bothering to lift the pen between words and dotting I’s and crossing T’s is way too much work. It’s more like griffonage or a scrawl than handwriting. Also, if you are reading this you already know I have a tenuous relationship with grammar and spelling at best. Perfection is not the point of morning pages anyway just getting thoughts on paper is.

Substack is the New Black
Maybe it’s because I am starting my own Substack, but it seems like I keep hearing people talk about this platform. Speaking of have you subscribed yet? You don’t want to miss next week’s post about the 100 Day Project…
Anywhoo - ya so every day I am finding new and exciting Substacks to follow and read. It reminds me of the olden days of blogging when you would link to each other to help drive traffic to each others blogs. A few I have subscribed to include
, , and .
Speaking of Substack suddenly being everywhere - I enjoyed this episode of Creative Pep Talk.
had lot’s of great things to say about Substack and newsletters.
Face Time is All the Time
Last but not least I’ve been drawing LOT’S of faces. All the pictures in this post are from this week alone and that’s not even all of them. I’m trying not to always revert back to my quirky ways of drawing and practice new styles and skills but it’s soooo hard. I want everyone to have snaggly teeth. Saw this Brian Eno quote in the
newsletter and it applies perfectly to the learning to draw faces portion of my quest.“People tend to play in their comfort zone, so the best things are achieved in a state of surprise, actually.”
This is my new drawing mantra. I still love my quirky faces, but I’m trying to grow and learn a new skill. The picture of David Johansen was definitely the most out of my comfort zone and as the song goes I feel like it’s ‘Trash’ but in the spirit of trying new things for the 100 Day Project I’ll instead give it a ‘Great Big Kiss".
Until next week. Keep your fingers crossed that week 2 is just as productive.
Wow, Jennifer! Your style is so magical. On the topic of Substack feeling like old school blogging, I am here for it! I fully remember discovering online communities like Craftster (RIP) and I would love to capture that feeling again. Substack makes me excited to find my creative online peeps again.
