100 Day Project Week 7 - I Dropped the Ball and the Paintbrush

Turns out forcing myself to try and draw realistic faces was like asking me to give up my colorful caftans for a closet full of beige.

Keeping up with the 100 Day Project is not as easy as I thought it would be. As I mentioned I’ve got a 200 day streak in Duolingo, I’ve been married for over 20 years and I remember to take my thyroid medicine every morning. I thought drawing faces for 100 days would be a walk in the park for a commitment pro like me. Apparently I was wrong, but don’t you worry your pretty little heads I’m not giving up I’m just tweaking the plan.

After 4 solid weeks of really trying to learn the ins and outs of portraiture it became clear that my hands and my weirdo loving heart kept wanting to distort and exaggerate all the faces. I’d start with every intention of making a realistic face and then before I knew it I was adding polka dots and a third eye.

Recently it dawned on me this “problem” might actually be the key to reviving this project instead of the reason behind it’s untimely demise.

Watercolor and markers in one of my sketchbooks.
