Placemats always kinda reminded me of a story I once heard about Henry David Thoreau and a doormat.

“As I had no room to spare within the house, nor time to spare within or without to shake it, I declined it, preferring to wipe my feet on the sod before my door. It is best to avoid the beginnings of evil.”

Sure I’m a maximalist and old Henry would not approve of the “evil” causing clutter inside my house however I think he was onto something when it came to door mats which I will generalize over to placemats.

OK enough deep thoughts - summer is here and it’s time to have the purse to match. It's hard to believe this cute clutch started out as a place mat. With the addition of some loom flowers it makes the perfect warm-weather accessory.
