Sometimes life, AKA out of town weddings, get in the way of goals. You might cheat on your diet, not have time for a meditation routine or in my case really slip on all 3 of your 100 Day Project items. Never fear I’m rebounding back and already did my morning pages and am posting my portraits a day late. I’ll get through 100 days, they may just not be consecutive.
One Line Drawings - Portraiture 101
Every art book and art class somewhere early on starts with a 1 line drawing exercise. These are faces created with a single unbroken line - the main rule being not to lift your pencil. I usually roll my eyes at this exercise but I had fun with this page. I think it is because instead of just a few (which I started with) I decided to fill an entire page. It turned into a mashup of surface design.
Did you read…
What To Draw and How to Draw It
If you read this copy of The Glue Gun Gazette you saw that I mentioned a fun little book from 1913 called What to Draw and How to Draw It. I’m still virtually flipping through the pages and this week was inspired by this easy to draw guy. This book reminds me of Ed Emberley books I used to read and draw with my kids when they were younger. Maybe I need to dust those bad boys off and start some fingerprint drawings.
Any Excuse to Buy New Art Supplies
Since it is week 4 of the 100 Day Project and I’ve been such a good girl I thought I deserved some new markers. Nothing fancy just a pack from 5 Below, but they are fun to play with. I love working in old books and the words that peak through in the back like: crafty, lewd and smug. Plus if you look closely at the original illustration you can see it was done by Maurice Sendak of “Where the Wild Things Are” fame. I love old books like this that are full of various illustrators and styles.
Recipe For a Face
These girls giving side eye were inspired by Cori Dantini. She has a cute little section called Recipe for a Face in the book Craft-a-Doodle by Jenny Doh. Everyone’s version of facial proportions are slightly different depending on their artistic style and I really loved her cute faces with easy to follow instructions.
Tune in next week to see how my progress is going! I’m traveling almost every week for the next month so keep your fingers crossed for me that I can keep things up.
Wow, so many cool drawing styles. I recognize Cori's drawing style from the book (that I'm in too!). So cute!
