If you subscribe to my monthly newsletter you know how much I love a good list. I like my information in small bite sized chunks. I like them interesting and fun, things that make for good dinner party conversation nuggets. Assuming you attend dinner parties with fellow creatives.
This weekend is the Junk Gypsy prom in Round Top. Tickets are sold out, but if you are going out to the flea market anyway stop by the store and say hi Saturday. I’ll be there all day gluing stuff to stuff with a DIY corsage and shell crown station. The prom theme is Under the Sea so it should be a shell of a good time. I even made an Instagram Reel about it. Too bad they couldn’t fly Josh Gluckstein in to make one of his amazing cardboard coral reefs as a photo opp spot!
Can’t make it to prom? No problem. Check out this fun DIY Shell Tiara tutorial I did for HGTV. Oh and Easter is coming. Do you have a mini mer-person in your life who needs this Mermaid themed Easter basket complete with DIY mer-eggs. Might I also suggest flipping through The Mermaid at Home from 1809 for a little light reading when you are done and icing your glue gun burns.
Are you familiar with Sailor Valentines? I’m kinda obsessed with all things vintage folk art and these shell mosaics sailors typically bought for their sweethearts in ports like Barbados are so cool. The Museum of International Folk Art has a cute DIY version for kids. This video is from Courtney Cerruti at Creativebug who I am keeping all my fingers and toes crossed does not also go out of business when JoAnn does since they own them.

Ya know I didn’t intend for this to turn into a nautical newsletter, but I do love a good theme. While planning my outfit for prom I was reminiscing about my Enid Collins purse collection I sold in my Etsy shop. I should have kept one of these sea themed beauties. Alas, I did not. Did you know Jeep Collins wrote a book about his mother called Enid - From Small Town Texas to 5th Ave. New York. When I start to get sentimental about selling my collection I love to peruse Finding Enid With Love curated by Karen Adler.
I leave you with more Under the Sea outfit inspiration from Chappell Roan and her fickle killer mermaid girlfriend. I love the sea creature’s prom dress and Chappell’s shell encrusted beret. The video reminds me of Splash meets The Shape of Water. Now that I think about it maybe I will wear my Swamp Girl Earrings and Creature From the Black Lagoon T-Shirt to the prom.
Remember if you wanted to share this with a friend that would be awesome.
